I'm having trouble adding multiple audio tracks in iMovie 11. I already have an audio track embedded with the video and a separate music track under. I wish to extend the music track further but need to cut it off at a certain point. I tried just adding the 2nd music track under the first but when I 'drop' the track it doesn't show up anywhere.

To add the soundtrack to your project, tap the Add Audio button next to a soundtrack. iMovie automatically places the song at the beginning of the project and automatically fits it to the length of the project. After you add a soundtrack, you can change its length like any other type of clip. You can also use more than one soundtrack in a project.

You can drop further tracks onto the same clip and they just stack up underneath and then you can fade the audio in and out on each track as required. I've just dropped 5 tracks on to a clip. Do a search in iMovie Help for audio, then scroll down to "Adjust the volume of a portion of an audio or a video clip"

You can also add content from the photo library after you've created your project: With your iMovie project open, scroll the timeline so the playhead (the white vertical line) appears where you want to add the image or video clip.

You can't really do this in iMovie as it is limited to 2 video tracks. You can do it in Final Cut or Premiere Pro if you're willing to spend the money, or HitFilm Express if you want don't want to spend a penny.

You can also drag the audio elsewhere in the timeline. iMovie HD may provide just two audio tracks, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited to two simultaneous sounds. You can overlap multiple audio clips in the timeline’s audio tracks: simply drag one audio clip on top of another.

You can perform audio adjustments to recorded clips similar to the other audio clips in your project. For more, learn how to add photos in iMovie for iOS.

Step 3: Adjust Background Music. Now you can edit and adjust the background music so that the music can begin somewhere in the middle of the song, etc. Choose the background music clip, right-click on it and select "Show Clip Trimmer" > "Trim To PlayHead" to customize your iMovie background music.

Add music to iMovie slideshow. Music sets the tone of your slideshow. Adding musing to iMovie slideshow is just as simple as adding photos and videos. So click the audio icon in the bottom right corner, and drag and drop the desired audio file to the timeline. Multiple songs could be added to iMovie. However, iMovie doesn't support multiple soundtracks.
